The Beau Street Hoard of 17,577 Roman silver coins was found close to the site of the hot springs at Bath in 2007. The hoard is not only very large, but also highly unusual, as it was discovered that the coins had been hidden away in 8 bags, vestigial remains of which survived.  This talk tells the story of the discovery of the hoard, its analysis and conservation, and the enormous public interest that it has generated. The significance of the hoard, why it was buried and its value in the context of 3rd century Roman Britain and the wider Roman empire is also discussed.
