Following the AGM: Ritual and Ceremony in the Mendip Caves

On Wednesday March 9, 2016
Dr. Paula Gardiner
Lecture

Burial and ceremony were the key events that occurred in the Mendip caves by some of Somerset’s early settlers.  Engraving rock in dark, inaccessible places, the deposition of carefully chosen objects and the modification of human skulls are some of the activities that took place here.  This talk will illustrate the archaeological evidence for these activities and put forward current interpretations.
