Bristol has a rich glass-making history and a large amount of ‘evidence’ is still present. Following the success of the ‘Glass Roadshow’ in Stourbridge earlier this year, members of BAAS and the public are invited to dig up glass archaeological finds from their gardens (or lofts) and bring them along for examination. Both myself (Kate Churchill, Principal Archaeologist at Nexus Heritage) and my colleague Vanessa Castagnino (an Archaeomaterials Specialist at the University of York) will be on hand to look at any glass (or other archaeological) finds found by the public in their gardens.By examining these finds hope to learn more about what was being made in Bristol, what techniques and materials were being used and where significant archaeological remains are still likely to survive.

But come anyway even if you have no finds!  The Bristol Blue Glass Studio has a superb little exhibition of old and new Bristol glass and their resident glassmakers will be on hand to provide demonstrations in glassblowing.

Just drop in between 10 am and 4pm at the Studio 357-9 Bath Road, BS4 3EW. There is free street parking just outside.
